bible verses about strength

Say the word strength, and immediately one thinks of diet plans, workout routines, and trips to the gym. The word reminds us of the workout clothes we bought last year, with good intentions, but never wore. To be physically strong and fit is a fine goal, but there is a greater strength that is even more essential – a strength that can only be found in God. We can discover God’s power when we study the Bible verses about strength. The Apostle Paul says: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” (Ephesians 6:10).

Godly strength trumps physical strength every time, but many believers balk at spiritual strength as well. We buy into the lies that we are somehow not strong in the Lord. We give in to feelings that we can never experience God’s strength. If this is you, then beware, God’s word never once indicates that God wants us to remain weak.

“From one end of the Bible to the other, we read of God’s strengthening His people,” writes Dr. David Jeremiah in Sanctuary. He continues, “The psalmist says the righteous person is like a tree planted by streams of water. Just like a tree is nourished by the constant supply of water—without which, under the blistering sun, the tree would surely die—so the life that is rooted in the Word of God will also be established and will be strong.”

Here are some scripture passages that teach us about strength. Pick one or two of these Bible verses about strength, claim them, and memorize them so that you might have hope in this difficult world.
